Vanniyars in Tamilnadu continue to indulge in their goondaism like many of their 'counterparts' in other parts of the country. Though a backward community, Vanniyars hatred towards the Dalits is well known and should be documented. Perhaps they can be equated with Jats in the north India in terms of violence against Dalits. That way Tamilnadu despite the historic struggle of Periyar continue to haunt Dalits. Political outfits like PMK use this opportunity to fish in troubled water. Tamilnadu government must ensure protection of Dalits and if parties like PMK are found in such violence, the best way is to derecognise them.
