We are back with our bulletin for May and June!

Film screenings

Over the past two months, Cinema of Resistance held three film screenings 
- in Chittaranjan Colony, Baghajatin with the children of 'Shamil Pathshala' (Details)
- in Barasat, North 24 Parganas, on invitation from 'Barasat Onnomon' (a cultural organization) (Details)
- in Jadavpur University, on invitation from 'Periods', a students' initiative against gender violence (Details)

From screen to street

On Hul Dibas, 30th June (anniversary of the historic Santhal Hul Rebellion), Cinema of Resistance activists and friends joined a massive and diverse People's March called by All India People's Forum (AIPF) from College Square to Dharmatala. The March was a mark of assertion of people against corporate loot of our natural resources, workers' labour and farmers' land and labour. The March demanded release of all political prisoners incarcerated in Indian jails just for their dissent against this loot.

Little Magazine

Just to remind you, our volume 'Pratirodher Cinema' is available for purchase in several little magazine stalls and book stores in Kolkata, Dhaka and Chittagong. Namely, Kolkata: Boi Ghor (Jadavpur), Kundu Book Stall (Jadavpur), Gyaner Aalo (Jadavpur), Boiwala (Jadavpur), Sachhidananda Granthagar (Garia No. 5 Bus Stand), Dhyan Bindu (College Street), Boi-Chitro (College Street-Coffee House), Bangladesh: Bidito, Pathak Somabesh, Batighar. 

DVD Distribution

For a list of documentary DVDs, distributed by volunteers from locations in and around Kolkata (namely, Jadavpur, Patuli, Dumdum, New Alipore, Sinthir More, Chinar Park, Behala, Kalighat, Bally and Uttarpara), please visit our online stall:http://corkolkata.wordpress.com/the-cor-stall/. By purchasing these DVDs, you would be contributing towards present and future projects of the independent filmmakers making these films.

Upcoming: "Mukti Chai"
Cultural meeting demanding release of political prisoners

On 11th July (Saturday), please join us for a cultural meeting at Muktangan auditorium (Rashbehari Crossing) from 3 pm to 7:30 pm. For an evening of resistance with songs, speeches and accounts, book readings, film screenings. 

Anand Patwardhan's 'Prisoners of Conscience' will be screened. Dr. Binayak Sen, Soni Sori, activist Rajeev Yadav (Rihai Manch, Uttar Pradesh and AIPF), Prof. Partha Chattopadhyay (historian), filmmaker Ajay TG (Chhattisgarh PUCL, previously held under UAPA), family members of Chhatradhar Mahato and Sukhshanti Baske, lawyers and activists fighting for the release of political prisoners are expected to share and exchange thoughts. 

We will be joined by Bipul Chakrabarti, Nitish Roy, Sushmit Bose, Ranjanprasad, Swabhav Travelling Theater and Cinema of Resistance's music troupe singing songs of resistance and awakening.

ABOUT US: Cinema of Resistance (Kolkata Chapter) organizes an annual film festival, called the Kolkata People's Film Festival, in January. Throughout the year, we organize monthly film screenings in Kolkata and also travel in Kolkata and its neighbouring districts (such as North and South 24 Pargnas, Hooghly, Howrah, Birbhum, Nadia etc.) to screen films and hold discussions/dialogues on invitation from non-funded like-minded groups, unions and organizations. We are particularly interested in screening amongst workers, women, children and young adults, civil society groups and folks in general who are allies of people's movements.
